a ona je bila robinja iz harema
Hüma Hatun was one of the consorts of Murad II and the mother of Mehmed the Conqueror, born on 30 March 1432. Her origins are controversial, but it is certain that she was a slave concubine because in the deed of a pious foundation she is mentioned as “Hatun bint Abdullah”, which is how female converts were referred to. Furthemore, Hüma was a name of Persian origin, and clearly given to her when she entered the harem.
According to tradition, which has not been proved yet, she was an Italian woman named Stella. Stella was the translation of Esther, a typical name among Jews, so it’s possible that she was a Jewish woman captured and presented to Murad II. What we know is that she wasn’t a French princess, as it would later be said.
Mehmed was sent to Amasya in 1443 and his mother surely followed him there. She died in August or September of 1449 and was buried in Bursa in a garden, about 100 yards from Murad II’s tomb. Later, her son built a tomb there, the Hatuniye Türbe, in his mother’s honour. – requested by anon
