Antonio Conte is interested in taking over at Manchester United but the Italian would first want assurances from the club that they are serious about winning the Champions League.
The former Chelsea boss is one of the frontrunners to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is under increasing pressure after a poor start to the campaign.
Conte left Inter Milan last summer after guiding the club to the Serie A title and he won the Premier League and FA Cup during his two seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Though Conte is widely considered one of the finest managers in the world, he’s yet to taste success in the Champions League and his record in the competition is a black mark against his managerial record to date.
According to Duncan Castles, Conte is keen on moving to Old Trafford should the job become available as he respects United’s history and status within world football.
However, he would first want assurances from the board that they are desperate to win the Champions League and will implement the changes he sees fit to make that a reality.
The Italian is known for cutting up squads when he first arrives and he fell out with the Inter Milan board over disputes about transfers.
But Castles says Conte is a leading candidate for the job at the Theatre of Dreams.
‘I think there are two obvious candidates in terms of coaches who have achieved at the top level of the game, who are out of work and would be available to Manchester United without compensation fees,’ said Castles.
‘One is Zinedine Zidane and one is Antonio Conte. Conte’s position, I’m told, is that he is interested in the Manchester United job but not without restrictions.
‘Antonio Conte, when he chooses his next club, wants a club where he can win the Champions League.
‘He wants to demonstrate, he’s wanted to do it for a long time, that he is one of the very best coaches in world football.
‘To do that he knows he has to win the Champions League, so Manchester United are interesting because of the squad they’ve got, because of their status and because of the resource that is behind them.’
United host arch rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford today and Solskjaer can ill-afford to lose, given the pressure on his position.
The Red Devils face Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea in the coming weeks and Solskjaer needs to start this run of fixtures with a positive result.

Ako je ovo tačno onda je smiješno. Unitedu prvo treba stabilnost u ligi, a kasnije šta bude bude. Chelsea i Liverpool su bolji za klasu od njih, a tu je uvijek i City.

A dobro kod nas je prisutan luzerski mentalitet od gazde do trenera i igrača, ali United je daleko od toga

Ali realno Solskjer je limitiran trener. Nije ništa bolji od Artete... razlika je samo što imate bolje igrače.
