Borussia Dortmund is restructuring its Sport division. The Executive Committee of the Advisory Board of Borussia Dortmund Geschäftsführungs-GmbH, chaired by BVB President Dr Reinhold Lunow, has decided to expand the management team by one position. Lars Ricken (47), Director of the Youth Academy since 1 January 2021, will take over as Managing Director of Sport from 1 May 2024 and will be responsible for the sporting side of the eight-time German champions.

Ricken, who in his previous role was responsible for the strategy, personnel and budget of BVB's largest department, will receive a contract until 30 June 2027.

Previously, the managing directors Thomas Treß (Finance, Organisation, Legal & Investor Relations) and Carsten Cramer (Sales & Marketing, Internationalisation, Digitalisation) had extended their contracts early until 30 June 2027. Hans-Joachim Watzke, who will step down from the Management Board at his own request at the end of 2025, will continue to be responsible for the Human Resources, Communications and Strategy divisions until this date. Watzke had already announced in January of this year that he intended to hand over responsibility for sport in the summer of 2024. The Executive Committee has now honoured this wish by appointing Rickens.

"We are delighted that Lars Ricken is taking over responsibility for the sporting area within the management team. He has played a key role in making Dortmund's youth academy by far the most successful German youth academy of the past ten years. BVB regularly celebrates titles with its own young talent, many talents have made the leap into the BVB professional squad, numerous of our young talents have made it into the various European professional leagues and multiplied their market values. Lars Ricken's expertise, his large network and his enormous identification with his home club, with which he also celebrated great success as a player, will enrich the management," says BVB President Dr Reinhold Lunow.

Ricken will be responsible for "Sport" as Managing Director from 1 May, while Sebastian Kehl will continue to act as Director of Sport. Lars Ricken will begin talks in the summer regarding a possible contract extension for Sebastian Kehl. In addition, Sven Mislintat (52), an expert with many years of experience and a successful BVB past, will take up his position as Technical Director on 1 May with a focus on "squad planning" and will report directly to Ricken and Kehl in his new role.

"I would like to thank the Executive Committee and the management for their trust and for appointing me as Managing Director Sport. I am convinced that with the incredible strength of this club and the passion of our many motivated employees, we will achieve great victories together and steer Borussia Dortmund into a successful future," said Lars Ricken, who will only talk about his new role in more detail when he is officially introduced in the days following the last Bundesliga match.

Hans-Joachim Watzke, Chairman of the Management Board, emphasised: "I am very pleased that Lars Ricken is taking over the position of Managing Director for Sporting Affairs. I am certain that Borussia Dortmund will continue to be in a first-class professional position in the future with the managing directors Thomas Treß, Carsten Cramer and Lars Ricken."

kad gledas na ligu, dortmund je morao uzeti bar jednu titulu u zadnje dvije sezone. realno ocekivanje moralo je biti, da svaki put kad bayern podbaci, dortmund ce iskoristiti sansu.
meni je terzic bio najvise odgovoran da se nista nije osvojilo, ali sad kad vidim kako se pojedini igraci ponasaju slobodno prema njemu, i da su se u decembru morali rijesiti onog srbina iz menadzmenta jer je pucao protiv terzica, dortmund je jednostavno toksicno okruzenje gdje on nije mogao raditi kako treba.
